My cat had crystals in your urine for 6 years. He was often in pain, but other than that, it was beautiful and alive. Sometimes it was just surly. I have taken to the Hospital of pet animals and one of the veterinarian told me and my husband that he could solve the problems of Crystal cat with surgery. He gave us some fuzzy details but said that he did this surgery on her cat and her cat was fine. We felt like we had to do this surgery to treat the cat. He said that would have been about $ 1,500. My husband and I agreed to surgery. We do not check the vet but relied on the fact that we had adequate service from the hospital in the past.
When we collected the cat after her surgery, the vet gave us instructions to keep it separate from other pets and give their litter box. We put in the bathroom. I tried to take care of him, but it was impossible. There was a big hole in his stomach about the size of a nickel that would have to pee outside. And always full of cat litter and couldn't keep it clean. I called the vet, almost into hysterics, after days of trying to take care of the cat. The veterinarian said that would take care of him in the hospital until he was well enough to return home. I asked the vet as that hole was going to heal without closing completely. He said: "soon."
Well, it didn't. One night I came home and the cat was nowhere to be found. I called to him and he didn't come. Finally, when he did come crawling out from underneath the Chair very slowly, I knew it was something wrong. We drove to him, in the middle of the night, a different veterinary emergency clinic. The technician has taken my cat by me, has led him to the back room and I heard my cat cry aloud as they put the IV in his leg. The veterinarian came rushing in our room and told that she needed to amputate one of his legs, but he did not know if you could fix the hole in his stomach. We need to decide whether we were going to surgery or put it to sleep. She was frantic and asked us to quickly make a decision as the cat was "in terrible pain." My stomach was ill. Thoughts of the surgery before I came to mind. I sat there dumbfounded at the vet's insistent urging that quickly we decided to take the life of the child. After it was over, I felt like a murderer. I'm sure my cat would still be alive today if it were not to blame from the first vet induce bad advice.
There are a lot of people out there who are guilted into doing unnecessary procedures on their animals because
(1) which is how to make money and veterinarians
(2) quite often there is some corrective surgery that can be done or some medicine that may or may not extend the life of the animal.
There is always the $ 200 or $ 300 Panel blood work independently of the problem. Then there is the Office visit fee and the fee for surgery or medication if you're lucky. These surgeries often cost over a thousand dollars.
I would just caution to remind yourself that when a pet is old, it's going to die. Maybe something can be done about it for a short period of time, but don't let the guilt of VET is doing anything. Most veterinarians play on your emotions. I had 6 pets at once and we've been to many vets. There were only two vets out of 25 I probably met who don't blame us. These animals are our family for a short time that I'm here and I believe in veterinary services. You should check your veterinarian though. Getting reviews for your doctor or clinic. The Internet has made this possible. Your pet deserves at least that much.
